2015 Georgia Watermelon Annual Meeting a Success

Georgia Watermelon Annual Meeting in St. Simons Island a Success  The Georgia Watermelon Association recently held its annual meeting in St. Simons, Ga. where they hosted more than 200 attendees.  This was the GWA’s third year year holding the event in coastal Georgia, and second term at the King & Prince Resort.  Conference coordinators and attendees were pleased with the location. “We were so pleased to have almost a 20 percent increase in conference attendees,” said Dawn Cheplick, GWA program coordinator and event director.  “We’re taking this attendance jump to indicate that we’re providing great education for watermelon growers in

2015 SE Regional Fruit & Vegetable Conference Announces Record Attendance

 2015 SE Regional Fruit & Vegetable Conference Announces Record High Attendance More than 3200 members of the fruit and vegetable industry headed to Savannah this past week to attend the 2015 SE Regional Fruit & Vegetable Conference and Tradeshow.  The annual event saw an almost 7 percent increase in attendees from its 2014 meeting, which welcomed just over 3000 people. “We are really pleased with this growth,” said Charles Hall, Executive Director of the Georgia Fruit & Vegetable Growers Association.  “It means we are providing an educational event and networking venue that the industry finds valuable.” The SE Regional Conference

UMD Food Safety Survey

Researchers at the University of Maryland are conducting a nationwide survey of vegetable and fruit growers to better understand how the FDA’s proposed rule on produce safety under the Food Safety Modernization Act will impact them.  The goal is to identify the current prevalence and cost burden of the kinds of food safety risk-reduction measures specified by the rule to better understand how the rule will affect different types of growers.
