With the release of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) letter to the U.S. cantaloupe industry, a line has been drawn about cantaloupe handling and YOU NEED TO BE READY.
FDA is initiating inspections of cantaloupe packinghouses in the U.S. and will be performing microbial sampling. This initiative does not need to be taken lightly.
Since the Florida cantaloupe season starts before Georgia’s season, Michelle Danyluk, specializing in produce food safety research from the University of Florida, will provide insight into what FDA inspections are all about as well as provide tips on ways to be prepared.
- What is FDA actually doing during the cantaloupe packing facility inspections?
- What went wrong in previous cantaloupe outbreaks?
- What is FDA looking for?
- Where will FDA likely inspect?
- How and where will they likely take microbial samples?
